The book is actually a trap for Arcane by the daughter of the Ogun Duchamp who seeks revenge for Jim Kipp. On Arcane's side is Duchamp's son who has taken his father's place.
302 Love Lost (1992) - from TheTVDB: A self-proclaimed psychic comes to the swamp in search of Alec Holland with a message from his dead wife Linda. She also reveals that Jim is still alive and will be heard from soon.

323 The Hurting (1993) - from TheTVDB: When an elderly woman, named Irma Swanson, who knew and befriended Swamp Thing, dies, her estranged daughter, Cathy, comes to town for her funeral. Swamp Thing and the spirit of Irma then show Cathy the past of Irma’s troubled life in order for Cathy to make amends meet.

But the effect causes bad luck with Will when he comes into contact with one of them and ends up a prisoner in Arcane’s lab who is determined to find the nest of rare eggs himself for personal use.
